Here at hog roast Tadworth we love the bustle of the big city, but sometimes it all gets a bit much and that’s when villages like Tadworth really come into their own.
Close to the bustle and busyness of London, Tadworth is a fantastic gateway to the beautiful Surrey countryside. Nearby Box Hill, an area of woodland and chalk downs, offers a great getaway for day-trippers trying to get away from the rat race. Slightly farther afield, the rest of Surrey offers all sorts of walks and nature reserves, making the village ideally placed to offer a base of operations for those wanting to venture further but still remaining close to the capital.
Because of its small size, Tadworth offers a rare insight into “traditional” British life. It must be one of the few villages left in England that still boasts a butcher, fishmonger, baker, and grocer, alongside a large supermarket. The pubs describe themselves as “country pubs” and pride themselves on their history and local food. Just the kind of places we like. That traditionally English game cricket is a major pastime here too. The village has three teams, with the game played nearly every day over the summer, and there’s also a cycling club. It’s all a bit more relaxed than the more extreme sports offered in other parts of the county – mountain boarding, climbing, and laser tag to name but a few.
It’s because of this emphasis on a traditional way of life that we love it when we’re asked to have a hog roast Tadworth pig roast in Tadworth. Somewhere like this the emphasis is on local, and we source all our meat from local suppliers. Roasting is a traditionally British method of cooking and, although these days we use machines to do the work, the meat is still slowly roasted in its own juices. Whatever meat you choose comes with its own traditional accompaniments: apple sauce and stuffing with pork; mint with lamb; horseradish with beef; cranberry with turkey; or yet more stuffing with chicken.
We cater for many events in the picturesque surroundings of Tadworth with us often catering at weddings. A wedding we recently catered at was an excellent event with 140 guests attending the bride and groom’s special day. We arrived at the venue at 11am which allowed us time to get the machine out of the van and into the back garden of the brides parent’s house; a huge stately like home. We set up under a huge marquee on the patio whilst the bride and groom were married across town. Drink and canapés were served to the jolly guests as they arrived and were shown to their seats. The main was served as a buffet with a choice of either our traditional spit roasted Pig served with apple sauce, stuffing & crispy crackling or local free range spit roasted Chicken served with chipolata sausage, stuffing and homemade onion gravy; both accompanied by seasonal vegetables and roasted new potatoes in rosemary & garlic. Then came the best man’s speech; always one of my favourite moments of any wedding. They are always funny and can be a little
emotional. The desserts were then served to the table with the guests being given a choice of summer pudding or profiteroles smothered in chocolate.
Whatever meat you choose, we can make it fit the occasion. For a truly informal affair you only need napkins, which cuts down on the need for cutlery. At the more formal end of the spectrum, we can provide proper crockery and silverware, along with waiting staff. You can have as many or few dishes as you like, including salads, potatoes, and dessert. You can even hire one of our machines if you’d rather do it all yourself!
In that respect, we think having a hog roast in Tadworth fits the village perfectly. Like our roasts, it can be as much or as little as you want. Away from the crowds of the larger towns, it can be a great retreat at the end of a day of walking, sports, visiting shows and fairs, festivals, or exploring historical and National Trust sites. There’s something for everybody, with Tamworth offering time to rest and reflect, and maybe have a hog roast Tadworth pig roast while you do so.
