In the years that have passed since Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’ was first revealed, talk about global warming and climate change has become ever more common, and yet our society still seems unable to make real, significant changes that would alleviate the problems we are facing. Carbon emissions have continued to rise, air pollution now claims thousands of lives each year, there is more plastic in our oceans that ever before, and rising temperatures are estimated to make a number of cities across the globe, inhospitable in the near future. Here at Hog Roast Reigate, we feel strongly about climate change and we are always looking for ways to make our services as eco-friendly as possible, but recently, we were given the opportunity to make a difference in a different way.
We were contacted by Robert, an environmental activist who had organised a festival in a local park to raise awareness about climate change. As well as a number of organisations that would be there to educate the public on the different aspects of global warming, there would also be food, music, dancing and a host of other activities for people to take part in, and Robert invited us to come along to serve our delicious food.
The team from Hog Roast Reigate arrived early in the morning to set up the Gazebo and get the hog roasting. Today we would be serving our classic Pigs in Buns, and the smell from the cooking had guests intrigued before it was even ready. At roughly twelve noon, when the number of guests rose dramatically, we were ready to serve. A queue formed straight away and they were working non-stop to feed their hungry guests. We served our Pigs in Buns on high quality, disposable paper plates that were 100% recyclable.
Many of the guests enjoyed our delicious food as they wandered through the remarkable festival that Robert had organised. As well as raising lots of money for organisations that fight against climate change, the general public had become even more informed about the dangers our planet is facing. In the end, after a hard day’s work, the team from Hog Roast Reigate tidied away their mess discreetly and disposed of any waste offsite.
