If there’s one thing that gets Twickenham buzzing, it’s the Six Nations Championship. So when Hog Roast Twickenham was invited to cater a match-day event for the big England v Ireland clash on 21st February we didn’t need asking twice.
The atmosphere? Electric.
We arrived to a sea of red and white, plenty of pre-match predictions flying about, and around 100 daytime guests ready to settle in for the showdown. While the players were warming up, our catering manager Olly was doing the same – carefully tending to the hog, slow-roasting it for hours until it hit that sweet spot.
And when we say sweet spot, we mean it. The crackling had that golden, glass-like crunch that makes people get a little possessive while underneath, the pork was juicy, tender and packed with natural flavour. You could hear the approval before anyone even took a bite.
We served it up in soft rolls and wraps, layering the pulled pork with sage and onion stuffing and a generous spoonful of applesauce. It was proper match-day food – hearty, comforting and sturdy enough to carry fans through every nail-biting moment.
Now… we won’t dwell on the final score. Let’s just say it wasn’t the fairy-tale ending the home crowd had hoped for against the Wolfhounds. But if there’s one thing that can cushion the blow of a tough result, it’s good food shared with good company. And thanks to Hog Roast Twickenham, there was plenty of that.
As the evening rolled in and 75 more guests joined after 6pm, we switched gears. Out came the homemade pies – meat and potato, cheese and onion, and chicken – all freshly baked with quality local ingredients. They disappeared fast. Very fast. For a moment, the post-match analysis took a back seat to flaky pastry and rich, savoury fillings.
Win or lose, it was a cracking day. Hog Roast Twickenham met some brilliant people, kept plates full and proved once again that great catering and rugby go hand in hand.
Got plans for the remaining fixtures? England v France on 14th March is calling… and we know just the thing to serve alongside it.
