Nobody wants their 50th birthday to be remembered for sandwiches curling at the edges or cold sausage rolls sitting sadly on paper plates. Fifty’s a proper milestone – huge even – and it deserves a menu that actually lives up to the occasion.

Our grilled vegetable and halloumi skewers, served with wraps, tzatziki, and sweet chilli sauce, gave guests a genuinely tasty alternative, with the halloumi easy enough to leave out for vegans. We also rustled up vegan pulled jackfruit, slow-cooked in a smoky hickory BBQ sauce, so that the meat-free options held their own against the main event without any trouble.
By the time plates were cleared, we’d say Simon’s 50th went down rather well. With 60 friends and family gathered, a whole hog taking centre stage and food to suit every appetite, it was exactly the kind of party that people remember for all the right reasons.
