Purley Sports and Social Club has always been the go-to for local sports fanatics – think cricket, football, pool, darts and tennis all under one roof – but it’s just as beloved as a party venue. So when our latest client’s 21st birthday rolled around, they wasted no time booking out the events hall, and with 50 hungry guests to feed, Hog Roast Reading was the very next call they made.
There’s something special about catering a 21st. It’s a proper milestone and we were chuffed to take the pressure off our client and handle the food from start to finish. We got stuck in early, working closely with them to put together a menu that would keep everyone happy – vegetarians and vegans included. In the end, our hog roast formed the core of the spread, backed up by a solid line-up of sides and a meat-free option just as worthy of attention.

By the time the party got going, Hog Roast Reading made sure the events hall was thick with the smell of roasted pork and guests were practically queuing up before we’d even finished carving. Once we did, out came succulent pulled pulled pork, scratchings, sage and onion stuffing and applesauce, all packed onto floury rolls. Alongside that sat a spread of tomato and mozzarella salad, coleslaw, mixed salad and a generous mountain of sweet potato and classic fries, with sauces, salt and vinegar close at hand for anyone who wanted to go all in.
The vegetarians and vegans weren’t left on the sidelines either – they never are when we’re around. Our BBQ pulled jackfruit sliders went down an absolute treat, proving just as popular as the meat, and giving everyone something worth getting excited about.
