Here at Hog Roast Richmond, we’ve spent years catering all kinds of event and parties, from weddings and corporate functions to birthdays, retirements and christenings. We were recently asked by Lili to cater a christening locally, where we would be providing some of our tempting food for 28 adults and 6 children at The Barn Church in Kew. This church is famous for being the first barn church to be consecrated in England and it was constructed in 1929 from a 16th or 17th Century barn from Oxted in Surrey. You can hire the Barn Church Hall but for this party, we would be catering outside in the sunshine.
We were asked to cook our Southern Slow Roast Menu for the 34 guests, with three marinated meats of chicken, ribs and lamb. We cook Cajun-spiced whole roasted chickens, sticky pork ribs and spicy pulled lamb for several hours, ensuring meat that just falls off the bone and melts in the mouth. You also get to choose several sides with this menu, and Lili asked for our homemade coleslaw, skin-on jacket potatoes, corn cobettes and a Greek salad full of feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and olives. We were also asked to cook veggie skewers, which is a popular option for vegetarian guests; with delicious grilled chunks of halloumi as well as mushrooms, mixed peppers, tomatoes, red onion, and courgette, they always go down a treat and we are sometimes asked to make them vegan, which we can easily do by not adding the cheese.
On the day of the christening, hours before food service, our Hog Roast Richmond team set up our equipment and gazebo in the lovely church gardens, and the meats were soon roasting away ever so slowly at a low temperature. Hours later, under our watchful eyes, and the trio of meats had all cooked beautifully and we got on with preparing lots of yummy side dishes and the veggie alternative.
By 12.45pm, Hog Roast Richmond let the guests know that the food was ready and the adults and children queued up for a taste of heaven, right next to the lovely Barn Church!
