Hog Roast Reading Catering 4 Celebrations All Rolled Into 1!

Hog Roast Reading often caters milestone birthday parties but recently we catered four in one! To celebrate two 21st birthdays and two 50th birthdays, we were asked by Paula to cook for 130 guests locally. While our name may conjure up images of sumptuous hog roasts, which we love to cook, we can and often do provide so much more as well if needed. From spit roasts to barbecues, multiple course meals to waiter-served canapés and welcome drinks, and even options for special diets, we have many options available to ensure that you and your guests are all catered for.

For this event, Hog Roast Reading was asked to cook our Private Party Menu 4 of a spit-roasted hog. This particular Surrey - spit roast6menu is great for alfresco dining, with the food served on real crockery for a more formal feel. While many of our customers ask us to slow-roast a hog, which we do in a tray, we can also spit-roast a pig so it’s skewered and rotates as it cooks instead. With our Menu 4, you can choose slow-roasted lamb, turkey, chicken or sirloin of roast beef if preferred, but on this day, the spit-roasted hog would be perfect to serve to the birthday celebrants and their guests, along with additional sausages, jacket potato wedges, and three salad dishes.

On the day of the party, Hog Roast Reading arrived hours before the food service, to give us plenty of time to set up our equipment and prepare the hog for its roasting. It takes several hours to slowly roast a pig to perfection, and the end result is tender and juicy meat and salty, crispy skin that’s turned into crackling. After scoring the meat all over, adding water and then rubbing in plenty of salt, we set the temperature to low on the hog roast machine and that was it – it was cooking. We just had to watch over it as it sizzled away.

Several hours later and it was time to cook the sausages and wedges and put together a lovely, fresh tomato and mozzarella salad, our gourmet coleslaw, and chef’s own pasta salad, and let the guests know that our tasty food was ready to be served.
