They say January is one of the worst months to have a birthday. Everyone’s tired, everyone’s skint, and half the guest list is “being good” after Christmas. Dry January, early nights, sensible dinners… you know the drill. But honestly? That just makes it the perfect excuse to do something a bit more memorable – January birthdays deserve just as much fuss as any other.
Our latest client proved that perfectly. In the lead up to their big 4-0 on the 10th of January, they decided to plan a legendary party with 130 guests and food that lived up to the occasion. That’s where Hog Roast Twickenham came in, of course.
Olly (our catering manager) arrived hours before the party started to make sure everything was just right with the menu. As the main attraction, his main focus was on getting the hog roast perfect – and let’s just say he nailed it.
After slow roasting the meat over real flames for hours it was finally ready for carving at 7 pm and the guests could hardly stop themselves from drooling over the sight. We’re talking moist, tender pork with crackling that broke perfectly with each slice. We also added homemade sage and onion stuffing and sweet, tangy applesauce on the side, which guests happily piled onto rolls and wraps to create the ultimate sandwich combo.
No proper feast is complete without sides – that’s a motto we live by at Hog Roast Twickenham. So, of course, we laid out tomato and mozzarella salad, fresh mixed leaves, coleslaw, and herb-roasted
new potatoes. Colourful, fresh, and delicious, these extras were as popular as the main event.
And for anyone skipping meat? We had chargrilled vegetable and halloumi skewers with flatbreads, tzatziki, and sweet chilli sauce so that everyone had something to enjoy, and no one went hungry.
By the end of the night, plates were empty and the room was absolutely buzzing. The client was thrilled, the guests were happy, and Hog Roast Twickenham loved being part of it all.
January birthdays might get a bit of a bad rap, but this one proves they can be just as fun – if not more – than birthdays in any other month. With good friends, tasty food, and a little planning, a winter birthday can be a proper celebration.
