Cooking a Hog Roast In Abinger – Out in the Countryside!

Well with Saturday being one of the hottest days of the year so far it made a big change compared to last weekends windy affair (check out last weeks blog). The Hog Roast in Abinger Common was a birthday party celebration for 40 people held at the very impressive Goddards Manor. This manor house was built in about 1900 and is simply stunning, the clients had rented the place for the weekend celebrations and so with a stunning venue I was under pressure to crcommon houseeate some stunning food to go with the surroundings. Luckily my trusty Spitting Pig Machine cooked the 50kg pig on a spit to a beautiful golden hue and the crackling was superb. on hot days the cooking time is less so for this pig I cooked it for about 5.30 hours and it was moist and juicy as hoped. The surrounding countryside of Abinger Common is green and lush with narrow country lanes opening out into amazing views of the countryside and it is at times like this that I wouldn’t change jobs for anything else. To go with the hog I made some homemade coleslaw & a green salad with cucumber and spring onions. The clients provided some potato salad and everyone got tucked into the meal at 2.30pm right on schedule. It was a great day with lovely people and tasty food and I look forward to the day that another Hog Roast in Abinger Common is booked as its a simply stunning location.
