Hog Roast East Ewell
Well the weather was not looking good all week but come Saturday it was blue sky and sunny which made our Hog Roast in East Ewell one to look forward to. The event was a 50th birthday and our client had asked for our 14 hour slow roasted pork option with sage & onion stuffing and hot apple sauce. I started the cooking process at our base at 5am and from then until serve at 7.30pm the pig was sealed in our custom made Spitting Pig stainless steel hog roasting machines with a very small gas flame being delivered at an even temperature to the whole pig. I had a 50 kg pig which although we were serving only 50 guests on this job is I feel the best size for this length of cooking time.
Throughout the cooking process I would baste the pork in its own juices to keep it lovely and moist and with the fat rendering down and being reabsorbed the meat ends up being super succulent. I arrived onsite 2 hours before the serve time which enabled me to setup the gazebo & tables from which we serve from in plenty of time and as the guests arrived I cranked up the heat in the machine to pop out the crackling so that it had extra crunch. Our clients house had a great access path to the back yard which made the setup very easy and a lovely flat grassed backyard.
With the guests arrived and drinks flowing it was time for the main event to be carved and served. The slow roast pulled pork option means that I can literally pull the bones out like a knife through butter and the guests were very impressed with the meat as it flaked off the pig and into the chaffing dish. The crackling was hot and crispy and more than one guest had a wee taste as I was pulling the meat apart. The temperature of the night was dropping so there is nothing better than a hot pulled pork bun to help keep the chill out and seconds and thirds were dished out to the hungry guests. I have always liked doing hog roasts in East Ewell as it is less than 30 minutes from our base and the traffic has never caused any problems for us around those parts. After a two hour serve the remaining meat was packaged up into tin foil takeaway containers so that as each guest left they could take away some beautiful pulled pork to have in a meal the next day. The guests were delighted as was the host and it was another successful event for Spitting Pig Eat Ewell, roll on summer. On the way home I picked up a hog roast machine that had been hired in East Ewell that evening and so all in all with both clients happy it was job done and off to bed.
