High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre – Catering For 130 Students

Surrey - pig21Hog Roast Dorking has enjoyed catering all kinds of events over the years, from wedding celebrations to birthday parties and christenings to corporate functions. We’ve catered many a school fete, as well as school proms and balls, but just recently we cooked up a storm at an outdoor education centre, where 130 students from Gordon’s School in Woking were attending a two-day activity trip.

The venue was the High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre, which is in Box Hill, near Dorking, so local to us. It’s set in 56 acres of lovely woodland in the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The centre has plenty of activities available for students and groups, such as archery, climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, walks and orienteering and much more. For this particular trip, the Gordon’s School students would be staying in the teepee village, in cool canvas teepees.

Hog Roast Dorking was asked to provide our fabulous pigs in buns, featuring Chef Paul’s legendary homemade apple sauce, as well as coleslaw and mixed salad. There would be a selection of fresh bread rolls and wraps and veggie skewers for the vegetarian guests. We want everyone to enjoy our delicious homemade food, so we have plenty of options for any guests with dietary needs, so long as we know in advance of your event. Our veggie skewers feature tasty halloumi pieces as well as fresh vegetables like courgette, mixed peppers, red onion, mushrooms and tomatoes and by omitting the halloumi, we can even make them vegan.

On the day of the feast, our Hog Roast Dorking team arrived hours before service to prepare the meat for its roasting. It takes hours to perfect a hog roast, and we watch over it as it sizzles Surrey - selfie1away. Some hours later and it was time to cook the skewers and then prepare the fresh salad and coleslaw, and we even added slices of watermelon to the salad, to make it even more refreshing on this hot day. It was finally time to serve up some yummy food and most of the kids loved having their pigs in buns actually in wraps. All in all, it was simply a great day.
